ADIÓS A FRANCISCO
Se ha marchado a la casa del Padre el «buen pastor»; el que guió su rebaño durante doce años con especial compasión hacia «las ovejas descarriadas»; el que quiso darles voz y participación corresponsable en los asuntos de la Iglesia a todos los bautizados y bautizadas; el que impulsó las relaciones con las iglesias orientales y el acercamiento entre todos los cristianos; el que promovió la apertura a las periferias, la prioridad de atender a los más vulnerables y la acogida a los migrantes; y el que proclamó la urgencia de la reconciliación entre todos los humanos basada en la justicia social y con la creación. Nos quedamos con esta breve cita de su última homilía, leída en la celebración de la Pascua presidida por el cardenal Angelo Comastri el día antes de su partida:
«Este es el anuncio de la Pascua: hay que buscarlo en otra parte. ¡Cristo ha resucitado, está vivo! La muerte no lo ha podido retener, ya no está envuelto en el sudario, y por tanto no se le puede encerrar en una bonita historia que contar, no se le puede reducir a un héroe del pasado ni pensar en Él como una estatua colocada en la sala de un museo. Al contrario, hay que buscarlo, y por eso no podemos quedarnos inmóviles. Debemos ponernos en movimiento, salir a buscarlo: buscarlo en la vida, buscarlo en el rostro de los hermanos, buscarlo en lo cotidiano, buscarlo en todas partes menos en aquel sepulcro» ... «Él está vivo y permanece siempre con nosotros, llorando las lágrimas de quien sufre y multiplicando la belleza de la vida en los pequeños gestos de amor de cada uno de nosotros».

FAREWELL TO FRANCISCO
The “good shepherd” has gone home to the Father's house; he who guided his flock for twelve years with special compassion for “the sheep that had gone astray”; he who wanted to give a voice and co-responsible participation in the affairs of the Church to all baptized men and women; he who fostered relations with the Eastern churches and the rapprochement between all Christians; he who promoted openness to the peripheries, the priority to care for the most vulnerable and the welcoming of migrants; and he who proclaimed the urgency of reconciliation among all humans based on social justice, and with creation. We are left with this brief quotation from his last homily, read at the Easter celebration presided over by Cardinal Angelo Comastri the day before his death:
"This is the announcement of Easter: you have to look for him elsewhere. Christ is risen, he is alive! Death has not been able to hold him, he is no longer wrapped in the shroud, and therefore cannot be enclosed in a nice story to tell, he cannot be reduced to a hero of the past or thought of as a statue placed in a museum hall. On the contrary, we have to look for him, and that is why we cannot remain immobile. We must get moving, go out and look for him: Look for him in life, look for him in the faces of his brothers and sisters, look for him in everyday life, look for him everywhere except in that tomb"… “He is alive and remains always with us, weeping the tears of those who suffer and multiplying the beauty of life in the small gestures of love of each one of us.”
